Public Court Records

Court appearances are recorded in a Minutes Log or Docket Book at local courthouses. These are public records. They can usually be found in the Office of the Prothonotary or in the Orphans Court section of the courthouse. Ask to see old appearance records, and look for records that pertain to adoption finalization or wording to that effect. Information included in these records will be the names of the adoptive parents, date of birth of the child (and possibly name before adoption, if named), and the name of the birthmother or agency.
