Introduction
If your life seems perfect just as it is, and you feel completely settled and at peace, chances are you may never consider a search for your relinquished child or birth parent. However, if something in your life prompts the need for answers to questions or resolutions, that may involve an adoption search.
An adoption search can be an extraordinary journey involving joy, frustration, success and failure. Your journey may be complex, full of more twists and turns than you could ever fathom, or it might be resolved within days. Or it could take much longer.
Although there are no set outcomes the journey will undoubtedly be eventful.
- You may meet some extraordinary people along the way;
- You may question your decision at times;
- Your journey will be unique;
- You may grow and heal in many unexpected ways;
- Your quest may be a true, excitement filled adventure; and
- It will change your life forever.
Some of the people you encounter during your journey will not understand or support your need to search. In fact, some may appear intent on thwarting your efforts.
I was born to a woman I never knew and raised by another who took in orphans. I do not know my background, my lineage, my biological or cultural heritage. But when I meet someone now, I treat them with respect. For, after all, they could be my people. ~ James Michener
