To Whom It May Concern:
Re: Mary Smith Jones
I am the treating physician for Mary Smith Jones. I understand that Mary is petitioning the court to have her adoption records unsealed. By way of this letter, I wish to strongly support her in that regard.
Choose 1 or more:
Scenario A
Mary has been a patient of mine for several years. She is currently being closely monitored for an increased risk of a variety of cancers known to be genetically related.
As many cancers have strong genetic components, and since Mary has no knowledge of any medical background including inheritable diseases, I am hampered in effectively treating her. She has a number of health issues that knowing her medical background could help me treat her more effectively.
Scenario B
I have treated Mary for clinical depression for several years. A strong factor that acerbates her depression is her lack of knowledge about her roots and birth family.
I wholeheartedly approve of her efforts to locate her records, and believe that obtaining information about her birth family and her adoption could benefit Mary immensely.
Scenario C
Mary Smith Jones is a current patient of mine and has expressed an interest in starting a family. However, she is extremely reticent to do so due to any lack of knowledge about any inherited medical issues that she might have in her family history. Many birth defects have some strong genetic components and Mary is very aware of this fact. She is quite concerned about becoming pregnant without knowing about her family medical history.
Thank you for your assistance in helping me treat Mary as effectively as possible.
