Check the Laws in Your State



Keep in mind that you need to know the law in the state where the adoption took place. This is the law that affects access to the adoption records that you need. In Appendix A, links are listed for every state. Each state will have different links depending on what is available.

You will be better able to make an informed choice about which method of search makes the most sense for your particular situation if you thoroughly understand the lawsand what options are available.
